SUZAKU KAN CLASSES

Tiny Tigers (2yrs-3yrs)

Tigers Karate Class is a specialised programme that caters to 2 and 3 year olds.  Located at the Onehunga Dojo, this is a parent and child participation class that focuses on building gross motor skills and working on listening skills.  An excellent starter class that will give your child a head start when entering the Junior level of karate.

Class Time: Saturday 10am-10:30am

Little Dragons (4yrs – 5yrs)

This program has been specifically designed to introduce 4 and 5 year olds to martial arts training. The program focuses on physical activity that will develop fitness, balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. It also includes basic self-defence/anti-bullying awareness and develops teamwork, confidence and focus. Games are also used to not only make it fun but assist mental development. This program is a feeder class for our Tough Tigers program starting at 5 ½-6 years of age depending on the child.

(W+S) = White belt with stripes.

(R-Y) = Red stripe to Yellow stripe belt with bar system.

Tough Tigers (6yrs – 7yrs)

Structured, formal karate training with emphasis on developing good technique through games and a variety of activities. Our Tough Tigers are now at an age where physical and mental development allows for more formalized training. It’s at this age where kids start to develop real confidence in themselves and their abilities. Classes are now separated based on ability and experience.

(W+S) = White belt with stripes.

(R-Y) = Red stripe to Yellow stripe belt with bar system.

Juniors Novice (8yrs – 12yrs)

Focus, discipline and etiquette feature highly in this class with developing strength, flexibility, confidence and good character. This age group is now ready for training closer to the adult equivalent. Juniors are expected to be disciplined, attentive and courteous. Their training facilitates this via more advanced technique and drills. Juniors may also train with adults (parents) in selected classes throughout the week. Juniors are separated based on ability and experience,

(W-O) = White to Orange Belt.

(R+) = Red to Orange with bar system.

Junior Intermediate (8yrs – 12yrs)

This class is for Green belt (6th kyu) and above grade levels and builds on the solid foundation developed in the novice class. Students are now ready to learn new techniques and drills designed to both challenge and develop intermediate level skills. It is expected that students can now handle a higher intensity of training due to their time in novices.

Adults/Seniors (13yrs+)

The class is for all levels from Beginner to Advanced, focusing on the foundations of karate, developing good technical detail and physical conditioning

.

As students progress on the basics they learn new techniques and drills designed to both challenge and develop skills and technique in the art of Karate.

Specialty Classes

Kumite

This class is exactly as the name suggests a sparring class! Students learn how to feel confident and capable in kumite through exercises and drills designed to improve a student’s competency in this area. Plenty of time is allocated to sparring students of all ranks and abilities. Students who regularly attend this class learn how to move more freely and dynamically. They learn to overcome their fear of sparring as everyone in the class is there to learn and grow. All safety equipment is mandatory for this class. We train with non-contact to light touch intensity.
